Rokiškis

  1. I was depressed by this film as I could not see any signs that Jews had lived there. No Synagogues, not even a ruin. No sign of a grave yard.
Is it because the Jewish gravestones were used as paving stones by Lithuanians?

  2. I know there is a Jewish graveyard in Rokiskis, because someone in Israel sends money to a non-Jewish woman there to care for the place. Unless it has been erased over the last ten years or so (the last time I heard of this arrangement).

  3. i’m from israel and i’ve been to rokiskis to see the town where my grandmother was born run away from when the nazis and their collaboretors came. from what i manged to learn from the lithuanian guide we hired, on photo 5, one of the small houses near the mansion was used as a holding place for resisting jews and russian communists until all of the prisoners and jews were killed in one of the nearby woods.
